Fort Myers-based duPont Builders is working to double the size of Vehicle Fortress, Southwest Florida’s upscale storage condos for RVs and all types of vehicles. The facility is now under construction at 14702 Tarmac Court off Treeline Avenue in Fort Myers, near the international airport.

The first phase of the project includes the construction of three buildings totaling 36,000sf. Once those are sold, the company will build another three buildings. There’s also room for nine additional buildings on an adjacent 7.5-acre parcel.

Each climate-controlled condo is 50 feet deep and 18 to 22 feet wide, with 14-foot-high doors and 65-foot aisles, making it roomy enough to maneuver and store even the largest RVs, boats, trailers and large personal luxury items. Further, the site is gated, with security cameras and a perimeter fence.

“Vehicle Fortress’ location is ideal for people who need to store RVs, luxury vehicles and boats in a secure air-conditioned space with easy access to the airport and I-75,” says Victor duPont, president of duPont Builders.

Richard Kohn, a longtime Boston real estate developer who specializes in commercial and industrial projects, credited Lee County commissioners for having the foresight to extend the development order for the project. Vehicle Fortress was conceived before the 2008 recession; the county’s extension of the development order removed a potential obstacle.

Prices range from $100,000 to $200,000 per unit, depending on size. The new condos will be available for occupancy this summer.
