Condominium Rebuild Project Begins on Sanibel
Benchmark General Contractors has broken ground on Gulf Beach Condominium, a $6.5 million, 14-unit rebuild at 527 E. Gulf Drive on Sanibel Island. The project replaces the building destroyed by Hurricane Ian in September 2022.
The 28,542sf building will retain its original design while meeting current flood regulations and building codes. Plans include two residential stories above parking, a pool and a dune crossover ramp providing beach access. Completion is expected in December 2027.
The development marks Benchmark’s 160th project on Sanibel since Hurricane Ian. Liz Zacharias serves as project manager, with MK Architecture as architect and Michael D. Stewart, P.E., as engineer.
