KOVA Companies has acquired appraisal firms Carlson, Norris and Associates, Inc., and MPJ Real Estate Services, Inc.

Operating as Carlson, Norris and Associates, the acquisition under the KOVA Appraisal & Consulting Services division expands KOVA’s portfolio of valuation and advisory services.

The principals of the acquired firms, Lee Norris, Bill Carlson and Michael Jonas, are all native Floridians and seasoned professionals. The three will lead the appraisal team of five MAI-designated professionals, six staff appraisers and an office manager.

According to Anthony Emma, KOVA Companies CEO and managing partner, they understand the local market and offer more than 100 years of collective real estate appraisal experience. “By bringing together these well-known names and their established reputations as market experts, KOVA can better serve clients statewide as a trusted appraisal partner,” he says.

Former MPJ Real Estate Services principal Michael Jonas, MAI, AI-GRS, CCIM, has been appointed managing director of Carlson, Norris and Associates, and is responsible for managing, reviewing and helping produce all work for clients.

Jonas, a licensed real estate broker, has been appraising commercial real estate since 1999 and has worked with many prestigious firms in roles as a bank review appraiser and eminent domain expert witness. He has completed valuation and review assignments for commercial properties throughout Florida, and focuses on investments ranging from owner-user properties to complex multi-tenant, incomeproducing properties.

Jonas served several years on the board of directors for the Appraisal Institute and was 2015 president of the Florida Gulf Coast Chapter. He graduated from the University of Central Florida with a bachelor’s degree in business administration.

Joining Jonas are Bill Carlson and Lee Norris, the founding partners of Carlson, Norris and Associates. Carlson serves as state-certified general real estate appraiser for the newly merged company.

Carlson was born in Miami and has lived in Fort Myers since 1963. Carlson earned his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Southern Mississippi, and also earned MAI and SRA designations from the Appraisal Institute. He has been an appraiser since 1975 and is now semi-retired.

Norris has been appointed director of residential operations and state-certified general real estate appraiser. Born and raised in Fort Myers, he has served as an appraiser in Southwest Florida for more than 40 years. He earned a bachelor’s degree from Florida State University and holds the MRA and SRA designations from the Appraisal Institute.

KOVA Companies was founded in 1990 as a privately owned, full-service commercial real estate firm. Its appraisal and consulting services division provides real estate property appraisals, feasibility studies, market studies, investment analyses and numerous other services to diverse property types ranging from freestanding commercial buildings, vacant land and marinas to hotels, car washes and singlefamily residences, among others.
