GCM Contracting Solutions, Inc., has been named a Tilt-Up Achievement Award winner for its Gulf Star Marina project. The award, given by the Tilt-Up Concrete Association, highlights innovation, versatility, and beauty in concrete tilt-wall design and construction on an international scale.

GCM completed work on Gulf Star, the world’s first fully automated marina, in August. The facility is located at 708 Fisherman’s Wharf on Fort Myers Beach, under the Matanzas Pass Bridge and next door to Doc Ford’s restaurant.

By eliminating the forklift drive aisle, the marina can store approximately 155 boats up to 40 feet in length, with the flexibility to store multiple vessels in the same bay and hold massive ships on the upper racks. The automated system also provides patrons with quick boat delivery times.

Concrete tilt-wall construction used for the project has benefits that include a four-hour fire rating, 200+ miles per hour wind rating, and built-in heat and sound insulation. These added safety features can help reduce insurance premiums by up to 15%, and in some cases, help satisfy local construction guidelines and restrictions.

Each of Gulf Star Marina’s 64 exterior concrete tilt-wall panels was poured and erected within the site footprint of 28,800sf.The panels stand at 76 feet, with the heaviest weighing 250,000 lbs.
